Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Your Inner Physician and You by John Upledger. This book contains many case studies of healing and transformational journeys resulting from Cranio-Sacral Therapy treatments. For people who are considering Cranio-Sacral Therapy, this book gives a good understanding of some of the amazing results that are possible with this modality.
Somatic Trauma Resolution
Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma by Peter Levine describes his breakthrough modality "Somatic Experiencing." Sharon Porter is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and is also a teacher of Polarity Therapy and Bio-Dynamic Cranio-Sacral Therapy. She took Peter Levine's work deeper into the body and energy field and developed Somatic Trauma Resolution. Where Somatic Experiencing is designed to be "hands off" because it is generally practiced by psychotherapists, who are not licensed to touch, Sharon Porter's Somatic Trauma Resolution gets deeper into the body more quickly, and does involve practitioner-client contact as needed to support maximum discharge of held trauma energy. This book is excellent foundational reading for people wishing to understand either modality.
Crash Course by Diane Poole Heller. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has suffered a car accident or other trauma and can't afford needed treatments. This book is primarily written as a self-healing guide, and therefore explains very simply and eloquently the basic information you need to know to guide yourself into the "discharge zone" and release trauma-bound energy. It also serves as a great introduction to the work if you are receiving or plan to receive sessions from a practitioner, and simply want to understand what is happening in the sessions, how it works, why you experience so many unusual sensations during the sessions, and why it's so effective.
Trauma-Proofing Your Kids: A Parents' Guide for Instilling Confidence, Joy and Resilience
by Peter A. Levine and Maggie Kline
More on Somatics
Focusing by Eugene Gendlin. This ground-breaking book in the field of mind-body medicine describes a simple six-step process that changes the way thoughts and emotions are held in the body. This technique will develop self-awareness and increase access to the inner wisdom that is always available.
Golden Eight Qigong
The Healing Art of Qigong by Master Hong Liu. This book describes the life story of Master Hong Liu, who is trained in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine, and climbed a mountain, literally, to go beyond both forms of medicine and train in Qigong Energy Healing. It later describes scientific studies in which he killed cancer cells in petri dishes using the "radiation" generated through his biofield, and describes a variety of healing sessions as examples of the power of Qigong Energy Healing. This book contains pictures and detailed instructions for the Golden Eight Qigong exercises that I am authorized to teach. If you have a background in Qigong or T'ai Chi, you can do the exercises straight out of the book. If you are a beginner, it would be better to have some personal or class instruction first, then use the book as a reference so that you will remember what you learned, and will be able to maintain your Qigong practice on your own.
Hsin Tao
The Miracle of Hsin Tao by Ratziel Bander. This movement practice is similar to Qigong and Polarity Yoga in that the exercises are clearly stimulating energetic pathways. However, it is unlike any other form of Qigong or T'ai Chi or Yoga that I have learned. This is one of the practices that I myself strive to do on a regular basis. I cannot say enough about the effectiveness of these simple movements. By effectiveness, I mean that for the amount of time put in, I reap more benefit per minute of exercise from this practice than from any other practice I am aware of.
